Packing Tips for Your Seattle Move

Lincoln Moving & Storage has been moving Seattle homes and offices for more than 100 years. In that time, we have seen just about every packing challenge the city can throw at a move, from steep streets to big apartment buildings. Here are three tips to keep your packing on track.

  1. Book your packing date as soon as you know your move date. Seattle homes go to pending in about 10 days, according to Zillow, so timelines can tighten quickly. The sooner you schedule, the more time your crew has to plan the right supplies for your home.
  2. Set aside what you do not want packed. Our Senior Vice President, Danny DiJulio, tells customers to keep things like medication and important papers separate from everything the movers will handle. Keep them in a bag that stays with you.
  3. Plan for your building and your street. Packing day brings a crew and a lot of boxes. Ask your building manager about elevator reservations, and check whether your street has restricted parking. Seattle may require a Temporary No Parking Zone for a truck in some spots, and it takes advance planning.

Why Seattle Homes Are Worth Packing Right

Seattle is not a cheap place to replace things. Zillow puts the typical Seattle home value at $856,052 as of June 30, 2026, and the average rent at $2,224 a month. RentCafe reports that the cost of living in Seattle runs about 44% above the national average, with housing about 104% above it. When prices run that high, a cracked heirloom or a scuffed dresser costs a lot to replace.

Add about 39 inches of rain a year, based on the National Weather Service normal reported by FOX 13 Seattle, and good packing materials matter even more. Whether you need house packing services for a family home in Ballard or help boxing up a condo in Belltown, careful packing protects what you already own.

Packing Services in Seattle FAQ

Angi reports that packing services in Seattle cost an additional $280 to $2,200 on top of the move itself. Your final price depends on how much you own and how fragile it is. Lincoln Moving & Storage gives you a free estimate, and any packing you choose is listed in your Order of Service with its cost, so you know the price before moving day.

Professional packing means a trained crew packs your belongings for you, so you do not have to. Our crews wrap furniture in moving blankets and shrink wrap, label your boxes, and log every item they move on your bill of lading. Packing is a service you choose, so ask your estimator about packing your whole home or only the rooms you want help with, like the kitchen.

Fragile items get extra padding and careful wrapping before they go into a box. Tell your estimator about art, antiques, mirrors, or electronics during your walkthrough, so the crew shows up with the right supplies for those pieces.

Yes, your belongings are automatically covered by Limited Liability Coverage at no extra cost when you move with Lincoln Moving & Storage. The FMCSA explains that under this option, the mover is responsible for no more than 60 cents per pound per article. You can also add Full Value Protection, which repairs or replaces damaged items, and you can declare Items of Extraordinary Value. Your estimator can walk you through each option.

Seattle does not require a Street Use permit for moving trucks, but you may need a Temporary No Parking Zone if your street has restricted parking. According to the Seattle Department of Transportation, you apply at least 24 hours ahead, and the no-parking easels must go up 72 hours before your move. Ask your Lincoln estimator about parking and elevator plans for your building so packing and moving day run smoothly.
