Washington Military and Air Force Bases

Moving into a local base? Here are a few facts about some of the facilities in the Seattle area:

Joint Base Lewis-McChord: The largest military installation in the Pacific Northwest. It spans over 400,000 acres and is home to over 40,000 service members. It’s very close to the Cascade Mountains, a popular location for hikes and skiing.

Naval Base Kitsap: This is the third-largest US Navy installation in the country. It’s almost like a small city, featuring amenities like child care and even a skate park. Over 40,000 service members and civilians call it home.

Naval Station Everett: Around 6,000 sailors and civil servants are assigned to this location. It is considered one of the most environmentally friendly stations, receiving the Navy Pollution Prevention Award.

FAQ

There are four main factors that decide the cost of your Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move, or really, how much you can be reimbursed by the government for your relocation:

  • Rank
  • Weight of your household goods
  • Distance
  • Family size

Some additional costs that movers may not always consider include first-month security deposits and utility connection fees.

Make sure you’ve saved all of the receipts, weight tickets and your DD Form 1351-2, as you will need to turn these records into the Defense Personal Property System or your branch’s specified portal to begin the reimbursement process.

If you have any questions, be sure to reach out to your local transportation office. They will be the best equipped to answer specific questions about the moving process and reimbursement.

We understand that PCS timelines can be fluid.

“Having partnered with military families for over a century, we’ve built our business model around flexibility. We know that orders change, and we pride ourselves on adapting quickly to serve our service members,” shares Owner and President Chris DiJulio.

Our team is highly flexible and can adjust our services to accommodate any changes to your schedule. Whether you need to move earlier or later than originally planned, we will do our best to accommodate your new timeline.

The cost of military moving services depends on the size of the move, the distance between locations, and any additional services, such as packing and storage.

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we work closely with military families to offer cost-effective solutions tailored to their specific needs. We help ensure that all military move allowances and reimbursements are maximized.

Each military move comes with weight allowances that must be followed. Exceeding these limits may result in additional charges.

“When the military assigns you to a permanent change of station, you’ll receive a predetermined PCS weight allowance for your move. For those without dependents, 14,000 pounds is usually the maximum weight allowance,” states the VA Mortgage Center.

Moving companies specializing in military moves, like Lincoln Moving & Storage, are well-versed in calculating the weight of your household goods and ensuring they are within the allotted limits. Movers must also provide clear communication about any potential additional costs related to weight overages.

We offer three kinds of coverage for your move.

Released Value Coverage: Basic protection that comes with every move. Your mover is responsible for covering you for 72 cents per pound per article

Full Value Protection: Requires an extra fee. If something is lost or damaged, the company will repair or replace it, or reimburse you for its current market value.

Items of Extraordinary Value Declaration: If you have items worth $100 or more per pound, you must inform the movers before the move. They’ll give you a special form to list these valuable items.

Yes. Moving between duty stations often requires temporary storage, especially if there’s a gap between moving out of one base and into the next.

Our storage facilities ensure that your items are safe and protected until they are ready for delivery at their new location, giving you peace of mind during the transition. In addition, our Kent warehouse storage facility is now military-approved.

You do not need to tip your moving team, but if you do, it is appreciated. We pay our movers for the time they spend on your job.

If you would like to show your movers your appreciation for a job well done, you could leave a review and mention the names of the movers who made your experience great.
