Lincoln Moving Journey

Lincoln Moving and Storage Moving Process Outlined

We’ve proudly served customers since 1914, and whether you’re moving into or out of an apartment, condo, home or office building.

Depending on the kind of move you need, the process can change a lot. In general, most moving jobs follow three phases:

Step One: Schedule an estimate – Give our offices a call at (800) 426-4780 to kick-off your move! We will work with you to arrange a visit from a move estimator.

Step Two: Review your Order of Service – This document will track all of the services you need to complete your move along with prices for each service.

Step Three: The day of your move:

  • No matter the service you need, our movers will arrive on your moving day ahead of when your move is scheduled to start.
  • Any items our movers touch will be logged in a document called a “bill of lading” which also acts as your moves inventory
  • When your move is completed, our team will give you a copy of the bill of lading and your order of service. Take your time reviewing both documents and give us a call if you have questions or concerns.

How to Find the Best Residential Movers in Tacoma

There are plenty of options to choose from when you’re looking for a moving company or even if you’re doing it yourself.

If you’re on the fence about whether or not you should hire a moving company for your job, here are a few of the features of the best moving companies, and some of the key advantages hiring a moving company might have for you.

License and Insurance: Trusted moving companies must be licensed by the states they operate in and must cover customers who move with them with insurance. If you move items on your own and break or lose something there’s no way to get that value back. We are liscenced for local and long distance moves in Washington and you can verify our credentials with our lisncence number, 153161.

Online Reviews and Partnerships: You can always learn a lot about a moving company’s history by looking at their reviews online. But one other thing you may want to check is if they have partnerships or endorsements from other organizations. Lincoln Moving and Storage is part of the American Trucking Association and the Washington Movers Conference, International Associaton of Movers and the Perfered Movers Network.

Equipment and Warehousing: Many homes in Central Tacoma were built in the mid 1900s meaning moving heavy items can be even more complicated. Our team has the equipment needed to move your gun safe without damaging walls or stairs.

Life in Tacoma

Whether you’re a resident already or joining our community, there’s a lot to love about “Grit-City.”

Local Attractions: If you love the outdoors, there’s plenty to explore at the Point of Defiance Park. The park also has a zoo and aquarium! More interested in the arts? Check out the Museum of Glass, and take part in a live glassblowing demonstration.

Food and Night Life: Tacoma’s history as a transportation hub has attracted people from all around the world including Korea, Lebanon and Italy, something you can see in the wide range of restaurants available in the city. Looking for something different? Take a look at this list of the top 10 most unique restaurants near Tacoma from Yelp.

Housing Market: According to Zillow, the average home value in 2026 is $478,988, which is down 1.1% from 2025. The average home cost has increased by a lot over the course of the last 10 years and it continues to rise.

Cost of Living: Payscale reports the cost of living in Tacoma is about 23% higher than the national average. Housing is much higher than the national average while utilities are actually slightly lower than the rest of the country.

FAQ

According to moveBuddha, “The typical cost for hiring movers in Tacoma, WA rang[es] from $531 to $4,440, on average.”

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we believe in being upfront about our prices for Tacoma moves. Tony Bouie, who manages our Tacoma office, says, “We give our customers detailed estimates that explain all the costs. This way, they know exactly what they’re paying for.”

We offer a wide range of services to help with different types of moves.

  • Packing and unpacking
  • Furniture assembly and disassembly
  • Home good transportation
  • Local, long distance and international moves
  • Commercial and office moves

Yes, at our Tacoma location we have a climate controlled warehouse with 30,000 sq ft of space for storage. Our warehouses are pest-controlled, flood-controlled and under 24/7 surveillance. We also have warehouses in Kent and Everett.

We offer three kinds of coverage for your move.

Released Value Coverage: Basic protection that comes with every move. Your mover is responsible for covering you for 60 cents per pound per article

Full Value Protection: Requires an extra fee. If something is lost or damaged, the company will repair, replace, or reimburse you for the item’s current market value.

Items of Extraordinary Value Declaration: If you have items worth $100 or more per pound, you need to tell the movers before the move. They’ll give you a special form to list these valuable items.

The best times to move are during the winter and spring when moving company schedules are at their lowest. The peak time for moving is the summer and it can be much more difficult to schedule movers during this time.

Booking 4-6 weeks in advance is generally recommended for local moves, while long-distance moves should be scheduled 8-12 weeks ahead.

For moving recommendations specific to Tacoma, try r/AskTacoma. It specifically calls out in the subreddit description that it is a great place to go for information about the area for people interested in moving there.

If you’re looking for pictures, upcoming events and stories about daily life in Tacoma you should also stop by r/Tacoma.

Need help with more general moving advice? Try out r/moving. Any challenge you have had with moving, someone here is bound to have faced before you. There are even mega-threads featuring moving day advice from real movers.

Tony Bouie, General Manager of our Tacoma location offers the following advice on sniffing out moving scams.

  • When searching online for moving companies, be careful to avoid “moving brokers.” These companies at face-value look to be normal moving companies, but they actually sell moving jobs to real moving companies
  • If a website or mover claims they can give you an exact price without seeing your property either in person or virtually, consider it a big red flag.
  • And this is a big one: Avoid moving companies that don’t have their license information clearly visible somewhere on their website or can’t give it to you over the phone.

“I met a woman from Proctor who was just trying to move closer to her job,” Bouie adds. “She didn’t realize she was moving with an unlicensed mover until she opened some boxes at her new home and found her collection of wine glasses totally shattered and her “movers” long gone.”

Unlicensed movers aren’t bound by the law, so if your property is broken or stolen you will often have no legal recourse.

The cheapest day of the week to hire movers is any day other people aren’t moving as much. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are usually the best days as most people try to move over the weekend. Generally, the earlier in the week you move the fewer other people will be moving.

This same line of thinking applies for the best month or time of the year to move as well. Summer is the most popular season to move so it’s much harder to schedule a job. Scheduling a move during the winter or fall will almost always be much easier.

We believe Lincoln Moving and Storage is the best moving company in Tacoma for three simple reasons:

  • Unmatched experience: Founded in 1914, we have been in operation for longer than many other moving companies in the area combined.
  • Outstanding track record: We have a 4.9 rating on Google and have worked with customers as big as Facebook, Amazon, and the Girl Scouts of America. No matter what job you have, our team can handle it.
  • Affordability: Our pricing is clear and openly available for customers to see. We also have a number of discounts available like free furniture disassembly and reassembly, military discounts, and discounts for older adults.
