Tacoma Moving Company

Moving for the First Time?

Are you planning a move in the Tacoma area? Start by requesting quotes from local moving companies. A professional estimator from the moving company will assess your belongings and provide a detailed Service Order outlining the services and associated costs.

On your moving day, experienced movers will carefully load and transport your items to your new location. As they load the truck, they will list each of your items on the Bill of Lading (BOL), which acts as an inventory of your items.

Upon arrival at your new home, you’ll receive a copy of the BOL. After the movers unload your items and you’ve verified their condition, you’ll sign off on the Bill of Lading with the crew leader, marking the successful completion of your Tacoma move.

How Much Does It Typically Cost to Move in Tacoma?

Moving costs in the Tacoma area can vary quite a bit based on several factors. For moves within the city, local movers usually charge by the hour and the number of movers needed. If you’re moving across state lines in the United States, the cost of the move is based on the weight of your items and how far you’re going.

Other factors that can affect the price of your move include the time of year you move, any extra services you want, and how complicated your move is. According to moveBuddha, “The typical cost for hiring movers in Tacoma, WA rang[es] from $531 to $4,440, on average.”

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we believe in being upfront about our prices for Tacoma moves. Tony Bouie, who manages our Tacoma office, says, “We give our customers detailed estimates that explain all the costs. This way, they know exactly what they’re paying for.” We work hard to keep our prices competitive while providing great service so Tacoma area residents get good value when they choose us for their move. Start your move today by filling out our free estimate form or calling us at (800) 426-4780.

What Range of Services Can I Expect from Tacoma Moving Companies?

Tacoma moving companies usually offer a wide range of services to help with different types of moves. According to Moving.com, “Simply put, full service movers will do everything associated with your move. This includes:

  • Supplying all packing materials and supplies…
  • Packing up your belongings
  • Furniture disassembly
  • Truck loading and unloading
  • Transporting your belongings
  • Unpacking
  • Disposal of packing materials.”

Some movers also provide extra services like storage options. Most movers provide local and long-distance moves; however, not all movers can move you anywhere. Before signing on with them, you must ensure your mover can relocate you to your new location.

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we offer all these services for people moving in the Tacoma area. Our company’s owner, Chris DiJulio, says, “Whether you’re moving your home or your business, we’ve got you covered. We offer a complete set of services to make any move easier, no matter how big or small.” At Lincoln, we aim to reduce the stress of moving for everyone in Tacoma who chooses our company.

What Storage Solutions Do Tacoma Moving Companies Offer?

Several moving companies in Tacoma provide storage options for customers who require short or long-term storage during their move. These can range from small storage units to large warehouse facilities. According to MyMovingReviews.com, “Most professional movers offer both moving and storage services – and combining these services is an extremely convenient and cost-efficient option when you need to store your items for the period between moving out of your old home and moving into your new one.”

How Am I Protected If My Items Are Lost or Damaged During the Move?

When planning a move, it’s important to understand how your belongings are protected. Moving companies offer different levels of protection, often called “valuation options,” to cover your items in case of loss or damage during the move. Here are the main types of protection most moving companies offer:

  • Limited Liability Coverage: This basic protection comes free with every move. According to the FMCSA, “Under this option, the mover is responsible for no more than 60 cents per pound per article.”
  • Full Value Protection: For an extra fee, you can get more comprehensive coverage. If something is lost or damaged, the company will repair, replace, or reimburse you for the item’s current market value.
  • Items of Extraordinary Value Declaration: If you have items worth $100 or more per pound, you need to tell the movers before the move. They’ll give you a special form to list these valuable items.

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we offer all these protection options for your Tacoma area move. Our owner, Chris DiJulio, explains, “We want our customers to feel confident about their move. We can walk you through each option and even create custom plans if needed.” We’ll help you understand the differences between the coverage types and assist you in listing any valuable items. Our goal is to find the right level of protection that fits your needs and budget so you can have a stress-free moving experience.

What's the Ideal Timeline for Booking a Move in Tacoma?

It’s advisable to schedule your Tacoma move as early as possible, especially if you plan to move during the peak summer season. According to The Mortgage Reports, “It’s smart to get on a mover’s calendar several weeks to months before your intended moving day… Moreover, if you’re moving across the country, particularly with a full house that includes kids and pets, schedule your move at least two months ahead.” Booking 4-6 weeks in advance is generally recommended for local moves, while long-distance moves should be scheduled 8-12 weeks ahead.

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we encourage early booking for all Tacoma moves. “The sooner you can schedule your move with us, the better. This allows you to schedule your preferred moving date while giving us ample time to plan the details of your move,” advises company owner Chris DiJulio.

How Can I Verify a Tacoma Moving Company's Licenses and Credentials?

When hiring a moving company in Tacoma, verify that they are properly licensed and insured. Companies must be registered with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission for moves within Washington state.

For interstate moves, they need a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) number. Most reliable movers have their license numbers listed on their website. You can verify the USDOT license numbers using the FMCSA License and Insurance Database. According to Moving.com, “Interstate moving companies (and some local moving companies) are required to register with the federal government, so if the mover is not registered this should be a major red flag.”

Lincoln Moving & Storage maintains all necessary licenses and insurance for operations in Tacoma and beyond. “We’re fully compliant with all state and federal regulations,” General Manager Tony Bouie assures. “Our USDOT number and state registration are always available for verification. We believe in transparency and encourage our customers to check our credentials.”

Lincoln Moving & Storage’s license numbers are:

  • USDOT License #153161
  • MC License #339
  • WUTC License #2278

You can always find Lincoln’s license numbers on the footer of our website.

What's the Process for Moving Valuable or Unique Items in Tacoma?

Moving specialty items requires extra care, specialized equipment, and expertise. Professional Tacoma movers should have experience handling valuable or delicate items like pianos, antiques, artwork, and safes. According to Container News, “Depending on the item, specialized shipping methods may be required. For example, artwork might require climate-controlled transport.” This is why finding a moving company with experience moving specialty items is important.

At Lincoln Moving & Storage, we have a dedicated approach to moving specialty items in Tacoma. “We trained our moving crews in the proper techniques for moving valuable and delicate items,” explains owner Chris DiJulio. “We use specialized equipment and custom crating when necessary to ensure these items are transported safely. From grand pianos to priceless artwork, we treat each item carefully.”

How Do Tacoma Moving Companies Handle Claims or Disputes?

Reputable moving companies in Tacoma should have clear procedures for handling disputes or claims. This typically involves a straightforward process for customers to report issues and a commitment to resolving problems promptly and fairly. According to HGTV, “The mover should acknowledge your claim within 30 days and deny or settle it within six months. If they refuse to reimburse you for your loss based on the valuation or insurance plan you selected, you may want to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or even take your case to small claims court.”

Lincoln Moving & Storage is committed to customer satisfaction and fair resolution of any issues. “We have a structured process for handling claims,” Lincoln Tacoma General Manager Tony Bouie states. “We encourage customers to report any concerns immediately, and our team works diligently to address and resolve issues promptly. We always ensure our customers are fully satisfied with their moving experience.”
